Who are the principals of Suns Sports Club?
Saratoga Sports Club is an affiliate of AAU. The principals are parents of girls involved in the program and dedicated to making sports available to young girls.

Are the Suns sponsored by Saratoga High School?
There is no affiliation between Saratoga High School and Saratoga Suns Sports Club. Saratoga HS Girls Basketball coach Mike Davey oversees the basketball program and the Club rents gym space from Saratoga HS, which we are very grateful for.

Do girls need to reside in Saratoga to play for the Suns?
No. Our objective is to create competitive teams from girls in the Saratoga, Los Gatos, Campbell, Cupertino and surrounding areas. All teams are formed through tryouts each year.

How many teams will play for the Suns?
In 2011 we will be forming age appropriate teams for grades 6-12. We anticpate fielding AAU teams as well as teams for the Spring NJB and Foothill College Spring league. We also plan to run the popular Suns Spring Development League for girls 3rd through 6th that are looking to improve their skills. For details on the Development League click here.

Is this a year round basketball club?
The goal of the Suns Basketball program is to increase our players access to the game, coaching and competition. Our teams will play in Spring, Summer and Fall basketball leagues. From November thru March, we encourage girls to play for their school and support local NJB chapters.

How much does it cost?
Fees are based on the cost of gym rental, equipment, tournament fees and nominal coaching staff expenses. 2011 fees are still TBD but last year, for Spring – March through May – the cost was about $500 per player. Summer and Fall dues will be determined at that time, but are expected to be less, depending on the number of participants. The Spring Development Leauge for younger girls was $160.

When and where will the teams practice?
The teams will practice at Saratoga HS or occassionally other local gyms as needed. Practices typically begin at the beginning of March and run through early June. Current plans are to practice one to two nights per week depending on the team and gym availability.

Are there any other costs associated with the program?
Each player will be required to register online as an AAU athlete affiliated with the Suns Sports Club. The annual AAU membership cost is $12 and runs August 1 through July 31 each year. At this time we don't anticipate any other costs with program participation.

Who are the coaches for each grade?
Saratoga High School Girls Head Coach Mike Davey will oversee the coaching assignments and direction for each team using coaches from his staff and the Suns program to ensure consistency and a positive, challenging experience for all teams.
